Stephanie

I'm Steph and I play the Clarinet, Recorder and Piano. I'm a professional clarinettist and hold a distinction from the MMus Orchestral Artistry programme at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and also BMus (Hons) from the RNCM.

I have a wide range of experience in music education ranging from private tuition to larger outreach projects in schools. I have taught privately and also taught piano and clarinet in schools in the north west since 2013.

I also worked for the Junior Royal Northern College of Music as a dep musician and mentor as well as working with organisations such as the National Children's Orchestra and the National Youth Orchestra in various outreach and pastoral capacities.
Most recently, I have worked as a musician for the London Symphony Orchestra Discovery department in many different outreach projects and toured an interactive performance of the Francaix Wind Quintet in schools across East London for children age 6-11 as part of a workshop with the internationally renowned ensemble, DECODA.

In my teaching, I would like to focus equally on musicality and the technical elements of playing an instrument but above all, I hope that the lessons will be fun and enjoyable for everyone! I will cater to your needs whether the lessons are to be geared towards doing exams or just learning for pleasure! I understand that every student learns at their own pace, so I will aim to tailor each lesson to your needs.

I have experience with working with beginners and also more advanced students! I also have a valid DBS check. Please get in touch if you have any questions or if you want to hear a recording of me playing!

I also teach English as it's my first language and also German after gaining A-level qualification German and having lived in both Austria and Germany over the years.




BIOGRAPHY:
Steph Yim began her musical studies at Chetham’s School of Music before being awarded a scholarship in 2013 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music. Steph has also completed an Erasmus semester at the Kunst Universität in Graz, Austria and a year of study at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt. She recently graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama on the Orchestral Artistry course.

Steph has been featured on BBC Radio 3, BBC Proms with the National Youth Orchestra GB and RNCM. In 2017, Steph toured as an academy member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe to Baden-Baden, Germany and the BBC Proms. Most recently, she has performed with the Ulster Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic as part of live concert broadcasts on Radio 3 and rehearsed with the London Symphony Orchestra. She is also performing with the Chipping Campden Festival Orchestra in May 2020. Steph is currently principal Eb Clarinet in the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra and is on the extra player lists for the Hallé Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic.
