Teaching experience
I've taught students ranging from five to sixteen years old in Bengaluru, India. I've taught small groups, one-on-one as well as full classes of no less than 50 pupils.
From June 2018 to December 2018, I worked at Bohiview Private Limited with children with special needs, focusing on strengthening their academic foundations. We mainly focused on listening, reading, writing and speaking skills in addition to basic mathematics, and socio-emotional development.
I worked as the Head of the Department, English at Narayana E Techno School in Bengaluru from November 2020 to March 2021. I taught students of grades 8, 9 and 10 and handled about seven sections (50 pupils each) in total. I've taken them all through graded exams. I guided the grade 10 students through their board exams which is the Indian equivalent of GCSE's.
My teaching approach varies based on the number of pupils I'm interacting with at that moment. I'm very flexible and I find it easy to relate more to young people because of my background (I'm currently studying MSc Child and Adolescent Mental Health at King's College London). I give equal importance to academics as well as my pupils' mental health so my sessions are never taxing. I try to ensure they have fun while learning, so that they come to love the subjects I teach rather than sit and endure a lesson while I drone on!
For instance, one of my favourite methods to work on language skills is using film as a medium! I show them a short film (usually Pixar) and ask them to note down anything they think is interesting. We then have a short recap and we either have a short discussion or I give them some open ended questions to work on essay writing and vocabulary.
