Teaching experience
I started my career as a Mathematics teacher in 1988 but soon took on various roles and positions of responsibilities alongside my teaching. These have included: Head of Mathematics (21 years), Director of Studies (23 years), Safeguarding Lead (6 years), NQT Manager (9 years) and Assistant Principal -Pastoral (3 years). In my role as a Director of Studies (Senior), I line managed a team of Directors of Studies and a team of Personal Tutors and managed all aspects of students` academic life, attendance and emotional wellbeing. I advised and helped students with their UCAS applications and I wrote and edited references.
I have taught Mathematics for the past 33 years at both GCSE and A level. I have taught A level Mathematics, A level Statistics (students recognized in the top 5 of the country) and GCSE Mathematics. I have in the past taught one-term intensive and one-year Mathematics courses at A level (grade improvement of up to 5 grades) as well as preparing students for GCSE Mathematics November retakes (100% pass rate) and one- year GCSE courses at Year 11. I was the Head of Mathematics for a total of 21 years until 2018. I bring with myself a set of skills given my various academic and pastoral roles which I believe give me an advantage as a teacher. I am known for producing excellent results and I have successfully taught a range of abilities at GCSE and A levels. I help students individually as well as teach classes. I have taught privately for many years in the past.
I have become experienced teaching online from 23 March 2020. I have used Microsoft Teams and Canvas for teaching my lessons online all through lockdown. I also use OneNote which has good functionality and is user friendly; students seem to prefer like it.
My students tell me that I explain things very well and that my approach makes them learn everything in depth. A student wrote to me recently to let me know that she was motivated by my teaching because of “your exceptional capability in explaining all the nitty gritty and linking the concepts even before we ask another question. Your teaching was flawless now that I think about it, and I guess this also comes with experienceâ€.
As of September 2021 I have left management and become a full time teacher as well as a University Admissions Tutor (UAT) managing all aspects of the UCAS process for a group of students.
