Welcome from Leon
A recent Physics graduate of Imperial College London. What draws me to tutoring is the joy of learning, and working through a problem together. I aim to use the knowledge I have to illuminate a subject.

Teaching experience
My principal teaching experience, before working for the student-tutor group, was actually in a sporting environment: I used to work as a tennis coach. There, I was responsible for designing and implementing the lessons that I taught and helped the senior coach as an assistant coach during his lessons.
I taught both group lessons and individual sessions. I coached on a part-time basis for approximately three years, from the summer of year 9 until the middle of the lower sixth.
I then worked as a tutor part-time during my first year of university. I primarily taught students of GCSE and A-Level, in mathematics and physics, with occasional lessons in Year 6 science.
Unfortunately, the pressures of my degree meant that I had to take a break from tutoring during my second year; I would have loved to have restarted tutoring in my final year, but this proved to be difficult with the nature of the pandemic towards the end of 2020. I am now really looking forward to restarting tutoring!
If I had to summarise what I have learned from all of my experiences as a teacher, I would simply say: spoon-feeding doesn't work!
Whether being tutored for the sake of an exam or just to further one's own knowledge for fun, a proper understanding doesn't come without working for it.
My role as a tutor is to find a way to ensure that each student is engaged with the material, and not glossing over the details or rushing to the answers hidden at the back of the textbook.
Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts to a proper understanding, and, from my experiences, this proper understanding is not achieved by spoon-feeding.
Ideally, I want to see a real engagement with the material from the student, both inside and outside of the session itself, and my job is to facilitate this engagement.
As much as you may sometimes wish otherwise, I can't sit the exam for you!
