I am a physics, math and computer science teacher, teaching at all levels. In lessons I primarily focus on helping the student meet their own goals. I prompt with questions and provide exposition as needed, so that the student learns to understand.

I have taught year 7 and 9 students, as well as A level, in the UK. I also have experience teaching high school and AP classes in the US. More recently I have been tutoring IB classes internationally.
I strongly believe that all students can succeed at these subjects, despite their reputations. In teaching I believe that it is important to emphasize direct laymans explanations of ideas and to focus on understanding the way a student should think about a problem, rather be dragged down by technicalities or overemphasize formulaic approaches.
In general my lessons have three phases.
The first phase is identifying the most productive use for this lesson. If a student is unsure what they want to learn I identify the kinds of problems they may face soon that they struggle with. If they know what they want to learn, I still spend some time gauging what specific needs they have.
I then proceed to teaching the content. If the student knows the material well and just needs practice this phase can be quite short. I teach primarily by asking guiding questions, while also explaining through the use of real life examples and simple models.
Once the student has a grasp of the content, I then move on to practicing it with them, through problems of gradually ramping complexity.
Throughout my lessons I try and let the student guide the lesson, focusing on their needs. I also put a lot of emphasis on understanding, prompting the student to question and explain the content rather than just reciting facts.
