Teaching experience
I have 22 years of teaching experience. I have worked in primary schools for many years and undertaken the roles of Deputy Headteacher as well as subject lead for maths. I have taught all age groups in KS2 and have had significant KS1 experience including rolling out an effective phonics programme.
I have also worked in the independent sector, teaching in both preparatory and senior schools. I have gained extensive experience of teaching maths and English to KS3 and KS4.
Most recently I have delivered maths to post 16 and adult learners in two FE colleges where I have performed the roles of GCSE coordinator and Century Tech Champion, being responsible for implementing and overseeing a specially designed independent learning platform for maths and English.
I am now employed by Pearson to deliver online maths tutoring to students in schools as part of the National Tutoring Programme. Additionally, I tutor maths to several private students.

John has been a fantastic help and support to our son and helped prepare him to pass his Maths GCSE. We approached John as our son came to the end of year 8 not because he was struggling with his maths but because we realised he lacked confidence in this area. John quickly built up a great rapport with our son and the sessions were tailored to his needs. Whilst the sessions originally took place face to face that advent of covid meant that they moved to Google Classroom which our son found very easy to use. John was keen that the sessions supported the work that our son was doing at school and we were able to provide him with a topic list so that the coaching sessions covered the right areas.
Over the three years that our son worked with John, his confidence in maths grew and this was reflected in his test results where he was consistently in the top 5 in his class. With John's support our son was able to take the higher maths paper at GCSE and passed it. In the run up to his GCSE's our son continued to have regular coaching sessions and has said that when it's his sister's turn to do them that we should get John back to work with her as maths is so hard to revise for.
I would have no hesitation in recommending John to anyone looking for a maths tutor for their child.

John is great and has been tutoring our kids for four plus years, helping them with things they need a little bit more help on and helping them progress. Not only does he know his stuff and can teach the methods we're not familiar with, he's kind and patient, and teaches in a calm manner that puts my boys at ease. He knows where they are with things, their abilities, when to push them a little more and when they need a bit more help, and has different approaches if what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another and keeps us informed. He also has a chuckle with them which they (and we!) enjoy! I even learn things when listening in! We have a lot of time for John - we think he's a lovely man and excellent tutor, and thank him for his patience, with them and us!
