Teaching experience
Three years ago Elliott moved to Moscow where he took up a tutoring position with the agency Carfax Education; since leaving Carfax in 2020 and becoming self-employed he has been teaching the core subjects to students ages 9-18. Elliott’s expertise lie in the humanities, particularly English Literature and Language, and he has taught this subject to university level and beyond. In the three years he has helped several students, both domestic and international, to acheive excellent grades in the national end-of-year and school entrance examinations and to enter competitive U.K. schools and universities (Harrow, St. Edwards, Shrewsbury School; Bristol, LSE, King’s College London). Additionally, Elliott runs classes to help students with university interviews and with the Oxbridge and UCAS application processes. He also teaches courses from outside the curriculum, such as Art History, Literary Composition, Rhetoric and Italian—his chief intellectual interests which he has pursued over the course of a decade. For clients interested in these subjects he organises cultural tours at home and abroad, as well as writing classes tailored to individuals and groups.
His teaching style is firm but rewarding, especially to students who take their studies seriously. He tends to supplement the core curriculum with learned material he knows well. Lessons are difficult but he finds that students take to this style very well. He focuses on reading and writing but likes to include aspects of rhetoric into the lessons, as he thinks perfecting the communication of ones ideas is the most important aspect of learning.
