Teaching experience
Who I have tutored:
I have taught ages 9-18 but am most confident with GCSE and A level students.
My experience:
Recently, I have volunteered for CoachBright, where I teach English at GCSE for disadvantaged children on a weekly basis.
I have managed a small tutoring company specialising in children with ADHD and autism for the past year. This involves tutoring myself, as well as offering guidance to new tutors about how to best tutor someone with specific educational needs.
I have tutored children in Geography A level for 2 years, with high success rates.
In 2021, I taught Geography and English for Lucid Learning, a company who partnered me with some of my youngest students (aged 9-10).
In 2020, I created revision material for Refocus, an ADHD coaching company. This taught me how to break down information into digestible bites. The notes followed the essential structure of (1) I do, (2) we do, (3) you do.
My teaching approach:
The way I teach really depends on the pupil. However, as a rule of thumb, I focus on past paper questions to build students confidence. I begin by answering one question, then we answer a similar question together, where the student can ask any questions. Finally, I ask the student to do a similar question by themselves. If they do not complete it to a sufficient standard, I may choose another approach such as discussing the topic (rather than writing), promoting a more conversational mode of learning. A lot of children also learn through images and actions so I often encourage students to draw or act their responses (usually in Geography more so than English). After this diversion, we return to the (1) I do, (2) we do, (3) you do structure.
