I am Alex, a PhD student studying infection & immunity at the University of Southampton. I have tutored over 100 lessons and predominantly teach science. My teaching style is to the point and typically involves lots of practice questions.

Most lessons will begin behind the scenes where I prepare material that is subject specific, at the relevant level and student focused. Lessons usually begin with me outlining the objectives and aims that should be addressed during the session. This precedes the taught section of the lesson whereby a new concept, idea or theory is discussed and explained to the student in the most interactive way as possible Usually with the assistance of graphs, diagrams and pictures because, they make it easier to understand! Typically afterwards I would show an example exam question and work though it with the student. Finally, the student will be allowed to attempt a few exam questions by themselves and once completed I will mark and talk them through it as I see fit. Progress will be assessed by the students contributions, engagement and effort during the lessons as well as their marks on exam questions. For the student to reach their potential I feel positive reinforcement and highly interactive sessions provide the best outcomes. However, the style of teaching is unique and adapted to each students specific requirements.
