Teaching experience
Throughout my Mathematics and Music degree at the University, I have had the opportunity to teach classes within Maths Education courses and volunteer as part of the University Outreach team, meaning I can use these experiences to ensure the tutoring is an engaging experience, as I believe it is important for students to enjoy learning Maths and see its uses in the world to understand it best. Through my tutoring on other platforms such as MyTutor, first Tutors and Apprentus, I have taught between ages 11-17 so far and include preparing students for exams such as GCSEs, Nat5s, Highers and A Levels. I am adaptable in changing my tutoring approach to the student, making use of my strong Mathematical knowledge from my 1st class honours degree well in these lessons. I also have an Enhanced DBS certification as a result of these experiences.
Having had 9 years of singing in Chapel, University and Scottish Choirs, I have been able to cover a wide range of repertoire and techniques on how to improve my singing style. During both school and university, Singing in choirs was my biggest extracurricular, and I aim to teach lessons in a way that can encourage budding singers to grow in their confidence and ability. Singing is a social and enjoyable experience, and this is the key thing in lessons that students choose to learn songs and techniques they are keen to cover and feel engaged when improving their singing. I can teach all abilities ranging from causal lessons up to Grade 5 standard for Singing. Being a conductor as part of a Choral Scholarship I have, which has included organising rehearsals and logistics for concerts, also means I have undertaken singing tutoring within groups at a high level here.
Having had 15 years of piano lessons, a key aspect I have picked up is the need for students to enjoy playing the instrument and are motivated to keep on playing and learning new pieces or techniques. The piano has often in my life been my biggest hobby and an escape from other things going on, and this is something I hope to provide to anyone interested in learning this wonderful instrument. I can teach all abilities ranging from causal lessons up to Grade 8 standard for Piano. My experience in having an ATCL Associates Degree and an ARSM Diploma from Trinity College London and ABRSM respectively means I am well catered to understand both exam curriculums in particular, as well as showcasing my Piano experience.
