Teaching experience
I currently work as a private tutor, online and in person, since 2020, in 1-2-1 and group setting. During this time I have taught students at GCSE level from year 9-11 in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, to provide extra support to school based learning. I also have experience teaching the entire syllabus of GCSE Biology to a student unable to attend school.
I currently am a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths) mentor teaching students aged 8-14 at summer schools.
I have taught 1st - 3rd year bioscience undergraduate students at University College London in small tutorial sessions (6 students) as well as demonstrating lab techniques since 2017.
I have tutored students KS2-5 working with The Brilliant Club to deliver self-designed specialised courses on my PhD research topic and more generally beyond the school curriculum of science.
My approach to teaching focuses on the individual and understanding the way they learn best. I will often ask questions to get the student to think about the problem at hand rather than just giving the answer as I feel like this helps the student understand better. I take a scaffolding approach to teaching; I first assess base knowledge, areas for improvement and long term goals and assisting students to achieve this by covering key material in the specification for passing exams, practicing past papers

TESTIMONIAL
This is a reference from a private student when Abbie joined TeachTutti
Abbie tutored me in maths for edexel GCSE. Abbie really helped me to gain confidence in my maths and refine and build new skills useful for my course. She picked out specific tasks and questions that where suited to me and allowed me to practice on the areas I struggled with. Overall she was very patient and I felt very well supported. Shes great!
